Roy The Roach
Roy The Roach
“When I started working at Quaff Records for Roy The Roach in 1988 there was no ‘soulful house’ scene, it was just house music. Roy was into everything danceable. We stocked rare groove, disco, funk, boogie, electro, New York dance and house music from Chicago, Detroit and New York.” Phil Asher – DJ/ Producer
A Pioneer of London’s Rare Groove movement, originally known on the scene as “The Funky Roach”, and the guy who owned Quaff records.
Roy became deeply involved with dance music in the mid 80’s with the opening of seminal rare groove shop Quaff Records. The shop was an integral part of that music movement and the warehouse scene that developed from it. When ‘House’ music arrived the shop became the forerunner in providing music to the DJ’s that are now considered the founders and mainstay of what has become a worldwide phenomenon. Shows on Studio FM, WBLS London and London’s favourite dance station, Kiss FM, cemented his connection with the rise of club culture as we know it.
Roy is CEO of CAS Resources, a resource for marketing and experiential agencies, curating, programming and booking artists for brand events, festivals and celebrations across the globe: Smirnoff Experience, Hennessy Artistry, Guinness-Arthurs Day, DsTV Delicious Food and Music Festival SA, Mi-Soul Margate Soul Festival, Stawberry Woods Festival
